Little Chefs

Kids have a way of cutting right to the heart of the matter.  Their eagerness to share, especially when expressing their culinary preferences is often amusing.  

I love old recipes and am always on the lookout for inspiration so I decided to take a job teaching kids some basic cooking skills .  It was a great way to introduce Vegan food to a younger generation.  After exploring mixing ingredients, tasting semi-sweet chocolate, rolling out and shaping pasta dough I was grateful for the opportunity to pass along little bits of information with each class.

I have learned over time that it doesn't really matter if they decide to get up and run around while waiting for their cookies to come out of the oven, or if they would rather eat the food than make it.  What seemed to matter most was their experiences in the classroom like the smell of garlic sauteing in a pan and tasting fresh gnocchi that they made themselves.  Hopefully these experiences will stay with them beyond the classroom and guide them towards healthier food choices in the future.
